Breast Lift

Mastopexy is the clinical term for breast lift surgery, also colloquially known as a “boob lift”. It’s a procedure that corrects the lost of firmness and sagging of the breasts, to return a more youthful shape or correct imperfections after child birth or weight loss.

Breast lift surgery corrects loss of firmness and sagging, for a more youthful shape

A breast lift or mastopexy removes excess skin and tightens the tissue to reshape the breasts. Performed by our highly-skilled surgeon, a breast lift can improve the contour of sagging breasts, restoring a more youthful shape. The procedure is common among women after childbirth, or following significant weight loss.

The loss of skin elasticity in this area is common, and can often result from pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, gravity or ageing. Breast lifts can improve the contour of sagging breasts, increase firmness by removing excess skin, raise the position of the nipples or reduce the size of the areolae.

Several techniques are available to remove excess tissue and reshape the breasts, and the best option for you will depend on a number of factors including your physical condition and desired outcomes. Our procedures are carefully planned to meet your individual needs, and we will formulate a treatment plan together with you.

For every step of your plastic surgery
journey, we are by your side.

Bendigo Plastic Surgery follows a simple tried-and-tested process for our surgical procedures. From initial consultation, to recovery and beyond, our team will look after you.

1

Before surgery

At the initial consultation we will discuss your desired outcomes, and we will also perform a detailed check of your medical history. Following this, we will also carry out a physical examination in order to ensure that you are a good candidate for surgery.

You will be provided with a list of instructions, which include: stop smoking at least six weeks prior to surgery, reduce alcohol consumption, set up a good support system at home and avoid medications like aspirin and fish oil.

2

During surgery

Breast lift surgery generally takes two hours, and most patients will be discharged the next day. The procedure involves skin removal, so fine lollipop scars are required, but these scars will fade and become less visible over time.

The breast lift procedure involves suspension of the breast internally to provide shape and support. Your surgeon may suggest volumising techniques like fat lipofilling or the use of a breast implant. For safety reasons, surgery is sometimes performed in two stages.

3

After surgery

Patients can expect some bruising and swelling after surgery, and your surgeon will provide detailed instructions for the days and weeks of recovery, including information about showering, dressings and supportive garments.

It’s important to refrain from strenuous activities, particularly using your arms to push and lift. Most patients are typically able to return to their regular routine in approximately three weeks, although recovery time will depend on individual circumstances.
